This first step helps us clearly understand your situation and ensures the rest of your journey is tailored specifically for your family.
Customized action plan
Following the discovery meeting, we create a Customized Action Plan designed around your family’s priorities. This roadmap outlines each step with clarity, helping reduce stress and uncertainty. By organizing both logistical and emotional needs, we ensure your transition feels structured, manageable, and fully supported from start to finish.
Advocacy and support
Throughout your transition, we provide steady Advocacy and Support to ensure you never feel alone. Our team answers questions, addresses concerns, and communicates with involved professionals. I’m Melanie, and I founded NextStep after supporting my own parents through a major life transition. With more than 20 years of experience in commercial banking—much of it working closely with real estate, development, and complex decision-making—I was used to guiding people through challenging situations.
But when my parents needed support navigating health, housing, and estate decisions, I realized just how overwhelming these transitions can feel for families. Coordinating professionals, understanding systems, helping a loved one make difficult choices—it’s a lot, even when you’re organized.
That experience changed me. I saw firsthand how seniors can feel uncertain or isolated, how family members often carry the emotional and logistical load, and how much difference it makes to have someone calm, compassionate, and capable walking alongside you.
I created NextStep to be that support. Someone who listens without judgment. Someone who understands both the emotional and practical sides of transition. Someone who can coordinate the moving parts so families can breathe again and seniors feel respected and empowered.
